About Bullying... From the Principal
April 11, 2012
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Recent news reports have heightened awareness of the issue of bullying in schools.
Please be assured that at Robert Wilson Elementary School, we are ALL on HIGH ALERT with regard to the issue of bullying. We ask for your support and involvement as we tackle this ugly problem. You can begin by having conversations with your son/daughter about this highly volatile and sensitive topic. Please do what you can to encourage your son/daughter to come forward and report any incident of bullying that occurs.
I assure you that NO report will be taken lightly- all reports of bullying will be investigated. The more information we have, the better we will be able to serve our students, take action, and STOP the BULLYING!
Students are encouraged to report bullying in a variety of ways. They can tell their teacher, a coach, the principals, the counselor, the nurse, or any school employee. Many times students don’t report because they don’t want their classmates to know- we have also told students how to report a bullying incident confidentially. Parents can also report a bullying incident on the CCISD website through the Report a Bully link.
Our Character 1st and Civility program teaches students that character touches everything we do in life. They have learned to exhibit character traits such as honesty, obedience, and generosity. They are learning how to be a buddy not a bully and we encourage them to be bucket fillers, not bucket dippers. Learning these skills will help all our children learn to work effectively, play safely with one another, and have concern for others’ well-being.
The most precious gift in life, are our children. At Robert Wilson Elementary School we believe a strong partnership between school and home is necessary to ensure our children are safe and successful. Communication amongst adults is imperative as we all join forces and take a stand against bullying! We appreciate your support and encourage your involvement. If you have any concerns, please feel free to call me at 878-2860.
In the Interest of Children,
Sheila Thomas
Character First
Our school district has adopted a new program to for character development. To emphasize good character, we must simply heighten awareness. We will focus on character qualities and surround ourselves with reminders to practice good citizenship and character.
Each month, we will have a new trait to focus on and build, while maintaing the previous qualities.
April's Character Trait: Patience
"Accepting a difficult situation without giving a deadline to remove it."

I Will...
change the things I can change and accept the things I can't.
keep trying until I succeed.
make the most of my spare time.
not interrupt.
not complain when I don't get my way.

Manner of the Month Program
We have partnered with Chick-fil-A to help build good character!
Each month, students seen exhibiting the character trait of the month may be awarded a ticket to submit for a drawing. At the end of the month, a name from each grade level will be chosen and those students will be invited to attend a special lunch at Chick-fil-A. The more often students show their nice manners, the more chances they will have to win this treat. Thank you Chick-fil-A for helping us be the best All*Stars we can be.
Dress for Success!
Robert WIlson All*Stars dress for success every day! Students are reminded to STOP and TUCK each morning and put their best foot forward to not just perform as the best of the best, but look the part, as well!
Security
Robert Wilson is a safe place for children, staff and the community. We have many policies and implement procedures to ensure the security and safety of everyone. Visitors should always check in through the office to sign in and receive a badge to easily identify themselves on campus. All volunteers should complete a background check through the school district to guarantee the safety on our campus. Background checks can be completed online via the district website, ccisd.us.
Be Here for the Bell!
The school day begins promptly at 8:00. Children should be at school, in their classroom and ready to learn by this time every day. Students who are absent should bring a note from home or from the doctor upon returning to school. Children who are tardy should be accompanied by a parent to get a tardy permit from the office to be admitted to class if arrival is after 8:15am. Students tardy after 8:15am will be recorded with a partial day absence. Remember, we can't teach you if you're not here!
